LASR @ AACC WINS B2CI 2019 COMPETITION

BRAIN TO COMPUTER INTERFACE (B2CI) COMPETITION
Congratulations to the LASR@ AACC Team for their exceptional work towards such a meaningful moment. On March 2nd at the National Electronics Museum, student interns from AACC competed in a drone race with only the use of their minds! Software programmer and Supplemental Calculus Instructor Ciaran Dorland was able to "crack the code" by successfully bridging the gap between mental commands and drone operations.

Ciaran worked tirelessly since late last year to write a program that can interpret signals coming from EEG headwear and convert them into commands that a drone can respond to. With over a decade of experience with the Java programming language, Ciaran paired a DJI Ryze Tello (an off-the-shelf consumer drone) with Emotiv's BCI software and Insight headset. He published the source code for other colleges to use and develop. The LASR@ AACC team was joined at the competition by The University of Baltimore, Capital Technology University, and the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. Taking home first place, AACC students showed their commitment to the computer science & robotics programs at AACC.
